Adventureland came out on DVD last week. This means it was stocked like a fresh box of butter in the cinematic refrigerator that is my local RedBox today.
I choose butter for Adventureland because the intentionally-indie movie is quickly slipping into my condiment movie category. Goes on smooth. Melts easy. Has many uses for my moods: feel good movie, romantic movie, background noise movie.
I saw this movie in the theaters and felt very connected to its plot. A film critic told me that's what these type of movies are supposed to do. Have a storyline that has enough quirky details that remind the masses of their own quirky details tricking them into an ultimate movie-connection. Well, so be it. That is, with Adventureland at least. (I saw Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and didn't leave the theater having any urge to fall in love or nostalgic need to miss a curfew or hold my friends head over the toilet.)
Adventureland reminded me of the time in life when love started with the most trivial moments and then lead to anything-but-trivial feelings. Desperate and sweet love. And naive. And wonderful. What I wouldn't do to have back an innocent heart, never assume the worst, never know that someone loving me could lead to someone leaving me, never doubt.
YEPS that led to the ADVENTURELAND YES:
Yep, Kristin Stewart is better in this than Twilight.
Yep, this soundtrack is better than Nick and Norah Infinite PLAYLIST.
Yep, I would wear both the GAMES GAMES GAMES and RIDES RIDES RIDES shirts that appear in the movie.
Yep, the wit might be a little too sharp to be believable in some cases. But luckily the writers threw some regular-people-pot-talk in to bring us back to the ground.
Yep, I don't lolz all over the place, but I grin. And a grin is sometimes worth a thousand bwahahaas.
